Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements public programs with a particular focus on adult audiences, such as talks, lectures, symposia, screenings, and exhibition-related special projects.
  • Develops and implements exhibition-based, audience-focused programs including in-gallery inter actives and resources, on-line resources, audio tours, and videos. Assists with development of support materials for exhibitions.
  • Supervises assigned staff, assists with hiring, establishes work assignments and assesses staffing needs. Plans and approves staff development and assists with performance management.
  • Develops and delivers program evaluation. Maintains evaluation statistics and prepares reports. Assists with development of visitor surveys and makes recommendations to cross-organization teams.
  • Identifies and implements measures for accessibility in programming for visitors and program participants.
  • Assists with the development and monitoring of budget and work plans.
  • Assists with identifying target markets, developing marketing strategies, and the. preparation of marketing support materials.
  • Produces reports and assists with applications for grants and funding. Participates in the identification of potential funding sources for programs and initiatives.
  • Maintains ongoing familiarity with best practices and innovation in museum programming and accessibility.
  • Supports and promotes the health and safety of employees in accordance with the Saskatchewan Employment Act, Saskatchewan Health Regulations and Standards, Occupational Health & Safety Regulations and Remai Modern’s administrative Occupational Health & Safety policies and departmental procedures. Maintains and monitors programs which impact employee and public health and safety.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Thorough knowledge of art history, art education and studio art practices.
  • Thorough knowledge of current practices in contemporary art and museum programming.
  • Demonstrated skill in originating innovative programming and ability to analyze and interpret exhibition content and evaluative data.
  • Demonstrated ability to express ideas and concepts effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to prepare and present specialized reports and educational materials.
  • Demonstrated creative and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated time management skills with the ability to organize work, set priorities, meet critical deadlines, follow up on assignments and work effectively on several projects concurrently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective relationships.
  • Responsive to diverse communities, including the ability to identify and understand intersecting issues related to age, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, race, ethnicity, immigration status, religion, and Indigenous heritage.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Degree in art history, fine arts, art education, museum studies or closely related field.
  • Four years of related experience in museum education, staff supervision, and working with adult audiences.
  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Possession of a valid first aid/CPR certificate, training provided upon hire.
  • Supervision & Safety: Level 3 Worksafe Saskatchewan (training to be provided)
  • Acceptable current Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) upon offer of employment.
