Saskatoon Residential School Survivors Circle & Tipi Painting Experience with Jerry Whitehead
On Friday, March 8 and Saturday, March 9, the public is invited to Remai Modern to observe a special experience by the Saskatoon Residential School Survivors Circle (SRSSC) and artist/Residential School Survivor Jerry Whitehead.
Whitehead will be on site in the museum’s Cameco Learning Studio as he adorns the tipi with a new logo for the SRSSC. He worked with the Saskatoon Survivors Circle to create the design and will be painting it throughout the week at the museum before presenting the finished piece to the group.
At the same time, members of the Survivors Circle will be present to provide support and answer questions about their lived experiences as Residential School Survivors. Visitors can come and go throughout the day to listen and learn from the Survivors. The studio will be open from 10 AM-5 PM on both days, with Survivors expected to arrive around noon.

About the Saskatoon Survivors Circle
The Saskatoon Residential School Survivors Circle, established in 2015, aims to build connections among Survivors. Membership is open to those residing in or near Saskatoon. Guided by the motto “Nothing about us, without us”, the group focuses on creating a safe space for Survivors and offers valuable insights to organizations by sharing first-hand knowledge and experiences.
About Jerry Whitehead
Jerry Whitehead, a renowned artist from Peter Chapman First Nation, is celebrated for his vibrant and dynamic portrayals of powwows and powwow dancers. Inspired by his family’s creativity and artistic skills, he completed a Bachelor of Arts in Indian Art from the Saskatchewan Indian Federated College. Currently based in British Columbia, Whitehead’s distinct style reflects his roots in Treaty Six Territory. His work is featured nationwide and in Remai Modern’s collection.
